Question by : What’s good to have on your resume for university with a marine biology program?
I want to become a marine biologist, and I was just wondering what courses or activities I could do to increase my chances of getting into a marine biology program, a university in general (obviously one with good biology or marine biology course options) or just for knowledge/experience. Also, if you know of any additional details about the schooling requirements of a marine biologist or different fields/jobs for a marine biology major that would be helpful! (I’ve looked into it a lot, but the more details the better!)

Best answer:

Answer by Cochise
Any activity that supports that major. Science Olympiad is an excellent EC for any future biologist.

I know several marine biologists – most of them work for government enforcing regulations to protect marine habitats, or for industry to ensure compliance with environmental regs.

Or switch to a more business orientated field where the financial rewards could be good?

Any Biology graduates? What did you/ do you do?

Best answer:

Answer by CareersOrg
Look for job growth in the next decade in the areas of biotechnology and molecular biology especially. The pharmaceutical industry will always be a major source of employment. We can expect business and government leaders to begin to put increasing emphasis to create more science and technology jobs in the United States as part of the trend of supporting high tech skill training here, rather than overseas.

I have a biology test and the material is not in the notes my teacher makes us copy down, and there is not much about it in the book. I really need help, I am shooting to get a really high honor role this semester.
It’s not discussed, it’s kind of related to what we learn, but none of my class understands it.

Best answer:

Answer by PattyAnn
Look up the material on line or in some books. It seems odd that you are being tested on something you haven’t studied, but if you know the material you’re being tested on, just study that. Do you even know the questions since you say they are weird?

Question by Sas84: Is doing a degree in Biology to become a teacher a mistake?
I am starting a degree in Biology in September and then wanted to do a PGCE to become a biology teacher but i’ve been looking for biology teaching jobs being advertised and cant find a single one. There all just for full science which i couldnt do as i have no proper knowlegde of chemistry or physics. Will there be any jobs or would i be better going into primary teaching eventhough i don’t want to?

I’m from UK if that helps.

Best answer:

Answer by Science Teacher
I don’t know how it is in the UK, but in the USA, there is a great demand for science teachers. This is just the wrong time of year to be looking for a job. At one point last spring, I counted over 30 advertisements for science teachers. I would encourage you to become certified in chemistry, physics, or at least physical science. So what if you don’t have proper knowledge; that is what college is for. You will be so much more marketable. I wouldn’t be a primary teacher; too many people have certification in that field and those jobs are soooo political around here.

Good luck.

or they’ve found some new stuff with chromosomes and telomeres which relates to genetic engineering and cloning (and why clones die so young). Professor Elizabeth Blackburn won the nobel prize for her research with telomeres this year.
