I’m deciding to choose a major among these two , I need to know which of these ,gives one a better opportunity to discover a cure for infectious diseases , a better pay and why……

You have good possibilities to have a good job, that depends were you want to work… but if you really want to focus in research for infections diseases you should take microbiology because a lot of pharmaceutical countries start to focus in the research and development of developing countries and they are making investment in the research of new methods of examination and how to get faster test in this countries so the microbiology have several options specially if you want to focus in research.

Microbiology and biotechnology are not jobs. Ugh, really, only lab tech jobs are available for people with any bio degree. And those are almost impossible to get because there’s just not enough jobs and too many applicants.

it totally depends on what school you go to – what’s the curriculum?

in Biotech, you’ll likely also have courses on fermentation theory and practice.

In Microbiology, perhaps diagnostics are a topic as well.

other than that they overlap a great deal.
Plus, your first degree does not determine what you end up doing as a career, unless you go for fermenter technologies….

biotechnology is the study of technology used on living things

Micro is the study of germs and bacteria

well, you can always work part-time in a nearby university for a prof .. a friend of mine used to work in a lab where she had to sort out fruit flies, and not only was it good for her career but it payed good money. they take part time workers there, since a lot of the people who work at the universities are actually students, so the employer is very accommodating. you can just look up the number of the university, find the department you’re considering, and you can call in to see if they’re hiring or where you can drop of a resume, etc. good luck!

Biotechnology is the utilization of science and technology, in which plants, animals and microorganisms are used to create products or do tasks for human beings.
Microbiology is the study of microorganisms.

Biology is my favorite science, but I still like chemistry, physics and mathematics.
After undergraduate studies, I’d like to study physical therapy.
So, which major should I choose?

Biotechnology and Microbiology are very related branches of biology. Infact there is no Biotechnology without Microbiology. Microbiology is the fundamental of Biotechnology. It also offers immense scope like Biotechnology.First of all lets see what is Biotechnology or Biotech. Biotechnology is the application of Biology to the welfare of mankind.

Biotechnology can be defined as the application of micro-organisms, plants and animals in industry. It is a relatively old branch that has recieved tremendous attention in the recent past. Now everyone is talking about biotechnology. Remember the production of alcoholic beverages, curdling of milk or fermentation of idli-dosa batter are examples of simple biotechnlogy. The country is evolving and so is its needs in terms of food, employment, space, education, etc are increasing. Today, we can not rely on the same number of resources, as we used to earlier, with the globalization of the world, import and export of new technologies, food, people, education categories, facilities is always going on. Lifestyle, employment and survival are all related to the type of education one gets. There is always a stability point for everything, so does education and career fields have. The urge in students to opt for something new and innovative has lead to many experiments and expansions are done to satisfy the growing needs of the education industry. Few examples of such courses are mass communication, Film making, IT Networking, Naturopathy, Biotechnology, etc.

Biology is a field which has been for years related only to doctors, if a person has opted for medical subjects in his senior secondary education; it means he will become a doctor. Though there are many types of doctor, but it had become too monotonous. So, with the changing times, many new courses have evolved from the term medicine, now the students are not only restricted to MBBS degrees, there are many other options they can take as their career. Some of the professional fields open for medical students after completing their 12th are: Allopathy, naturopathy, Homeopathy, Physiotherapy, Neurology, Radiology, Pharmacy selling, Pharmacists, Biotechnology, etc.

Biotechnology is one of the recent developments in the field of medicine, as its name suggests, it’s a combination of Biology and Technology. It is also termed as Genetic engineering, all based on researches. Biotechnology as defined by the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity is “Any technological application that uses biological systems, living organisms, or derivatives thereof, to make or modify products or processes for specific use”. Biotechnology is purely based on all the biological forms such as microbiology, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, animal cell culture, embryology, and also on other forms of technology like information technology, chemical engineering, biorobotics, etc, to have an analytical and better result.

Looking at the increasing demand of researchers in the field of medicine, many students are opting for biotechnology as their career. Also, its newness and the urge of innovation has grabbed the attention of many technology freaks and is coming up as a platform for students to prove their talents.
