Question by rook9566: How can mimicry in the animal world be explained by evolution?
For instance, there is an insect larva that looks like a bird dropping. If evolution is a slow process, how did this larva evolve? The first ones that didn’t look as much like bird droppings would get eaten. They would have no advantage over any other form or shape. Its only the final form that works to fool predators. I am not making a case for creationism or ID, I’m just trying to grasp the concepts better. Is there any theories that evolution is somehow linked subconsciencely to the parents?

Best answer:

Answer by the_candy_man92
the insects that looked the most like bird droppings survived the best so they constantly looked more and more like bird droppings

it might be better if you used an example of something that actually happened

Edit: This is microevolution, so the insects that looked the most like the bird droppings would only get eaten slightly less then the others, so the process would take hundreds of thousands of years

Best answer:

Answer by Witch
It’s not part of the teachings of the Bible.

But then the Bible is meant to be taken as metaphor, not literal history. Even in Christianity, this idea of the Bible as literal truth is really only a recent phenomena. For most of Christianity’s history, and for the Hebrew history before that, the Bible was read for what it meant, not for a verbatim history essay.

Look up the Hebrew word “Midrash” some time.

Question by Dreamstuff Entity: How, exactly, does the big bang disprove evolution?
Posted a few minutes ago:

“The universe is expanding, meaning it must have a beginning. That proves evolution to be false in and of itself.”

Best answer:

Answer by Flying Above the Lotus
Neither the “Big Bang Theory” nor Evolution does not disprove the bible or God but only someones theological interpretation. On the idea of whether there is a God or not, good science yet remains neutral.

The things spoken about in Genesis 1 that God did in an instant mentally/Spiritually is still unraveling in the progress of time and Genesis 2:1-3 from the point of view of the physical has not yet happened. Now Adam was the start of a new segment of time called the Adamic age (of which the bible deals with) within a much older segment of time that could be millions or billions of years old. Adam was something new introduced to this world. Time is actually insignificant to the God. Genesis 6 speaks about Adam’s offspring (called the Sons of God) being mixed with the humanoid evolved creatures that were here through their daughters. Noah was mixture and so are we. Adam’s offspring introduced language and objectivity to the purely subjective and emotional world of the animal. Adam is the missing link that science has yet to find because of his origin as an angelic genes that were placed in a physical body his bones dissolved after death and so did his descendants that were giant. Not all were physical giants though but some mental and spiritual giants. Adam’s genes remain on this planet but only mentally and spiritually.

The Big Bang was neither a bang nor an explosion because there were no atoms yet to vibrate nor were there any to accelerate. What the scientist are actually seeing is physical evidence of “Let there be Light”.

Question by Wedge – The Envy of all Corellia: Continuity vs Strict Replacement or is human evolution a combination of the two?
There are basically two hypotheses regarding Human Evolution especially when it comes to where Neanderthal fits into the picture – Continuity and Strict Replacement: I am interested in where people stand on this topic – personally, I am a Continuitist – I know many people are influenced on their stance by their Instructure’s Point of View.

Best answer:

Answer by jim z
Continuity implies one branch that evolved without offshoots. In fact we have discovered that Neanderthals for example are a side branch. This is based on a couple of factors. First the DNA extracted from some Neanderthal bones indicate they probably did not interbreed with H. sapiens. Secondly, they tended to get less human like in more recent specimens. Homo erectus (later versions anyway) and Homo floresiensis provide two other examples of species that diverged from common ancestor. “Strict” replacement maybe too strong though I believe that replacement is the best explanation for most of human evolution. It is similar to multi-regionalism though I think it is incorrect and nearly impossible that Asians evolved from H. erectus, Europeans from Neanderthals, and Africans from H. ergaster (etc).Rather, particular groups that evolved physical features or cultural characteristics which gave them an advantage spread their genes more effectively. They didn’t always come from Africa. Almost certainly we evolved in Europe, Asia, and Africa simultaneously IMO. The out of Africa Theory is almost a religion to some anthropologists however.

Question by princess: What role do homologous structures play in the theory of evolution?
We are studying the theory of evolution in my science class and my teacher asked me ” What role do homologous structures play in the theory of evolution?” and I was kind of puzzled as to what she meant. Can any one help me?

Best answer:

Answer by Kelly G
homologous structures are those similar in position, but not necessarily in function. for example, a whale’s flipper and a human arm are homologous. homologous structures support the theory of evolution because they suggest the existence of a common ancestor. in the whale and human, the bones are different sizes and serve slightly different functions but the structure is basically the same. (the chimp also shares a similar bone structure.) biologists use these structures to trace the path of evolution through species.

for clarity, compare this concept with that of analogous structures — those which are similar in function but not structure, like the wings of butterflies, bats and birds.

hope that helps!

Question by : When will Christians finally accept that evolution is a fact?
Evolution happens, this is a fact and cannot be argued. The theory of evolution only attempts to explain how evolution occurs. Also a theory only becomes a theory when it has been tested, repeated, continues to give noncontradictory results, and explains some phenomenon in nature. A law can be expressed mathematically and can be readily observed in nature, however a law provides no explanation of how or why this feature occurs.

Question by Major Upgrade: What will be the pinnacle of mans evolution?
If you believe that mankind began as a single cell that sprang to life as the result of a cosmic accident, and that we have slowly progressed into the super intelligent beings that we have become, please tell me where you think we are headed from here.

Will we evolve into a race of giants or something?
Will we become so intelligent that we eventually evolve into gods ourselves?
Will we simply evolve into a single race, single gender species?
Maybe you believe that we are evolving back into apes and we are at the apex of evolution now. Why?

Best answer:

Answer by Gnomon
The thing about evolution is that there is no pinnacle. There’s no top to the tree. Every animal is at the moment perfectly adapted to its environment. In a million years time, it will be a different selection of animals, but they’ll all be perfectly adapted too. We’re not better than the slugs and beetles in our garden, we’re just around to do a different job. We won’t be any better in a million years time, just different.
