As the swine flu influenza A (H1N1) virus is a new virus, no swine flu vaccine is available to prevent infections. Although vaccines are available for different kinds of swine flu, the current trivalent influenza vaccine is unlikely to provide protection against the new strain. Experts are already working on a swine flu vaccine. Vaccines are being developed and are expected to be ready as early as November 2009. Officials expect that two injections will probably be necessary, spaced three weeks apart. Clinical trials are currently underway to confirm whether two shots are actually needed and to determine the optimal dose.
