It is characterized by memory loss, confusion, worsening language skills, and impaired judgment. This disease is progressive, degenerative neurological disorder; it means it gets worse as time runs. In Alzheimer’s, the formation of abnormal clumps called amyloid plaques and jumbled bundles of fibers within the brain takes place.
Approximately 5 million people in U.S. are anguishing from Alzheimer’s. The disease affects the five percent of people age 60 to 75. Alzheimer’s is not a normal disease occurring at older age, but people are more likely to develop this disease as he or she gets older.

Stages of Alzheimer’s:
Early Stage: In early stage, the symptoms are mild, like they may not be able to recall the recent event happened or a tendency to be more reserved than usual. During the primary stage they can live independently.
Mid Stage: As the disease progresses the symptoms become more serious and dangerous for an individual. They require assistance for daily activities like eating, dressing and for using bathroom. They even forget their current address or telephone number. At this stage they may or may not have problem remembering their own name. But behavioral changes may start taking place.
Later Stage: The symptoms become severe and require full time assistance for the majority of daily functions. They lost the ability to understand and use the language.

Causes and risk factors:
The greatest risk factor is aging. Above 65 years, it is more likely to develop this disease but is not a normal disease for older peoples. In family if the siblings or parents are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s then they are at a greater risk. Sedentary life style may be one of the reasons. These include lack of exercise, lack of access to a social network, and lack of mentally stimulating activities. The brain elasticity increases due to obesity. Environmental factor is also one of the reasons where aluminum a toxic element found naturally in environment as well as in household products play a role in development of Alzheimer’s disease. If a person have had a serious head injury are more likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease.

Signs and symptoms:
A few of the symptoms of alzheimers include:

•	Misplaces things, hide things and keep the things in strange places and then forgets
•	Mood swings
•	Memory loss
•	Confusion
•	Impaired judgment
•	Disconnected from reality
•	Restlessness
•	Deterioration of language skills
•	Cannot walk, stand, sit up, or hold up their head

Treatment:
Currently there is no Alzheimer’s treatment that can stop the disease. But some medications are there which will help in delaying the deterioration of disease.
For mild to moderate people Tacrine, Donepezil, Rivastigmine and alantamine are available. While there is one medicine available for moderate to severe stage is Memantine although has limited effects.
