All that we actually believed was that it is a general skin problem faced by millions across the world. Generally, for the most of us, acne is of the same type which occurs on the skin creating an inflammation and pain in the affected region. Some acne’s occur only during the menstrual cycle and a few others give rise to the adult acne skin problems. But, what we didn’t know is that there are basic two types of acne which are further categorized into sub parts based on their characteristics.

Non-Inflammatory acnes: The non-inflammatory type of acne includes of two sub types which are:

Whitehead: Acne having the plugged follicle below the skin surface is generally termed as a whitehead.

Blackhead: An acne plug that enlarges and comes out of the skin surface is called as the blackhead. It is a dark plug which accumulates a lot of dirt and other skin particles.

Papule: The papule is known as the combination of inflammatory and non-inflammatory types of acne. They are tender to touch and appear like a small bump on the skin surface.

Pustule: Pustules are similar to papule except the fact that they have more characters of the inflammatory acnes. They appear red and have a yellowish head containing pus. They don’t carry much bacteria in them. They are usually caused due to certain irritations of chemical reactions caused due to certain food items or fatty acids in the body.

Nodule: The most common type of acne are the Nodule or the cyst. They are very painful, filled with pus from deep within and develop when the liquid secretion of the whitehead or the blackheads spills across the surrounding skin. The nodules can remain for a week upto a month’s time. They later dry off to form a cyst like structure that leaves behind a deep and dark scar on the skin.

Inflammatory acnes: The inflammatory acnes is also sub categorized into further types including of:

Acne Conglobata: This is one of the most rare but severe types of acne which usually occurs on the skin of the back, chest and the buttocks.
